Sweden Industrial Output Growth Slows in March

Industrial production in Sweden rose 3% year-on-year in March 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 6.2% in the previous month. Manufacturing output slowed to 3.5% from 6.4% in the prior month, weighed down by weaker gains in textiles, clothing and leather industries (3% vs 6.3% in February), and transport equipment (0.1% vs 19.5%), as well as declines in electrical equipment (-5.3% vs 0.6%), machinery and equipment (-1.4% vs 5.2%), and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (-1.9% vs 18.9%). Meanwhile, mining and quarrying output fell 6.8%, reversing a 6.1% rise in the previous month. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production dropped 2%, down from a downwardly revised 3.8% growth in the prior period.

Industrial production in Sweden rose by 7.0% year-on-year in February 2026, accelerating sharply from a downwardly revised 1.6% increase in January. The expansion was largely driven by a rebound in mining output, which grew by 6.2% after a 6.7% decline in the previous month. Within the sector, metal ore mining picked up notably (8.5% vs. -2.6%), while other mining and quarrying activities also recovered (2.3% vs. -19.2%). Meanwhile, manufacturing output strengthened further, rising 7.0%, up from 2.0% in January, providing additional support to overall industrial growth. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output increased by 5.1% in February, rebounding from a downwardly revised 6.5% contraction in the preceding month.

Industrial production in Sweden rose by 1.9% year-on-year in January 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 2.3% increase in the previous month. This marked the softest growth in industrial activity since September 2024, mainly due to a 6.7% drop (vs 7.3% in December) in mining production, particularly for metal iron mines (-2.6% vs 7.8%) and other mines and quarries (-18.8% vs -0.9%). On the other hand, output growth in the manufacturing sector remained unchanged at 2.2%. Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (9% vs -9.4%), chemical, chemical products and pharmaceutical products (7.8% vs -0.7%), and fabricated metal products (6.3% vs 2.7%) recorded the most notable improvements. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, overall industrial output dropped by 5.7% in January, slipping from a downwardly revised 3.9% gain in the preceding period.
