Sweden's trade surplus narrowed to SEK 9.3 billion in March 2026 from SEK 10.9 billion in the same month last year, as imports grew faster than exports.
Imports rose 5.8% to SEK 185.8 billion, driven solely by higher purchases from EU countries (+8.8% to SEK 126.5 billion), while those from non-EU countries were unchanged at SEK 59.3 billion.
Meanwhile, exports increased 4.6% to SEK 195.1 billion, supported by stronger sales to EU markets (+10.8% to SEK 109.6 billion), while outbound shipments to non-EU markets declined (-2.4% to SEK 85.5 billion).
In the first three months of the year, the cumulative trade surplus narrowed significantly to SEK 16.4 billion from SEK 30.9 billion in the same period a year earlier.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the trade balance posted a deficit of SEK 0.5 billion in March, shifting from a SEK 0.3 billion surplus in the previous month.
