Spain Tourist Arrivals Continue to Rise

Spain received 9.746 million international tourists in June 2026, up 2.9% yoy and marking a new record for the month. The UK remained the largest source market, with nearly 2.3 million visitors, an increase of 6.8%. By contrast, arrivals from Germany fell 5.9% to 1.2 million, while those from France declined 1.7% to 1.0 million. The number of tourists choosing market-based accommodation as their primary lodging option edged down 0.6%. Within this category, hotel stays decreased 1.7%, while demand for rental accommodation rose 10.1%. Meanwhile, the use of non-market accommodation, including stays with friends or relatives and in privately owned properties, jumped 26.8%. In the first half of 2026, Spain received around 46.6 million international tourists, up 4.6% from the same period a year earlier. The UK remained the largest source market, with more than 9.3 million visitors (+4.3%), followed by Germany with 5.7 million (-1.1%) and France with more than 5.6 million (+1.0%).

Spain received about 10.3 million international visitors during May 2026, 9.5% more than in May 2025 and setting a new record for the month. The United Kingdom retained its position as the leading country of residence, with almost 2.2 million tourists (+6.1%). France (+11.1%) and Germany (+9.0%) each contributed around 1.3 million tourists. Nearly 5.4 million tourists stayed for four to seven nights, making it the most common length of stay and representing a 14.1% increase compared with the same month of the previous year. The number of day-trippers rose by 2.7%, while that of tourists staying for more than 15 nights decreased by 3.7%. Catalonia was the top tourist destination, receiving 21.1% of all tourists, a 13.1% increase compared with May 2025. It was followed by the Balearic Islands, with a 20.6% share of total arrivals, up 5.2%, and Andalusia, accounting for 15.9% of tourists, up 12.7%. Year-to-date, the number of tourists increased by 5.0% and exceeded 36.8 million.

Spain registered about 9.1 million international visitors during April 2026, 5.2% more than in the same month of 2025 and setting a new record for the month. The United Kingdom remained the main country of residence, with nearly 1.7 million tourists (+2.7% compared with April 2025), followed by France with 1.3 million (+5.1%) and Germany with 1.2 million (-9.1%). The most common length of stay was four to seven nights, with more than 4.6 million tourists (+2.7%), while the number of day-trippers fell by 0.1% and that of tourists staying more than 15 nights increased by 2.4%. Catalonia was the top tourist destination, receiving 1.9 million tourists, a 7.7% surge compared to April 2025. It was followed by Andalusia with 1.5 million visitors, up 6.9%, and the Balearic Islands, with 1.4 million, up 1.4%. Total spending amounted to €11.6 billion, 7.4% more than in April of 2025. In the first four months of 2026, the number of tourists increased by 3.4% and reached almost 26.6 million.
