Spanish Tourism Breaks New Records

Spain received approximately 6.8 million international tourists in March 2026, 3.3% more than in the same month in 2025 and setting a new record for the month. The United Kingdom led tourist arrivals with close to 1.3 million visitors (+2.1%), followed by Germany with 924,088 (+2.9%) and France with 798,671 (+4.4%). Most tourists stayed four to seven nights, totaling nearly 3.4 million (a 4.1% increase), while both day-trippers and long-stay visitors (over 15 nights) also grew, by 2.2% and 5.5%, respectively. In the first three months of 2026, the number of tourists rose by 2.5% to around 17.5 million. The Canary Islands remained the leading destination in March with 22.9% of total arrivals and a 0.4% increase from March 2025, followed by Catalonia (19.1%, -5.4%) and Andalusia (17.1%, +10.8%).

Spain recorded about 5.6 million international visitors in February 2026, 2.8% more than in the same month of 2025 and setting a new record for the month. In the first two months of 2026, the number of tourists increased by 2% and reached almost 10.7 million. Tourists from the United Kingdom totaled one million, keeping it the top source and up 1.8% from February 2025. France followed with 687,434 visitors, though down by 4.8%, while Germany recorded a modest but positive increase to 629,604 (+1.4%). The most common length of stay for tourists was four to seven nights, totaling nearly 2.7 million, a 4.1% increase compared with the previous year. In contrast, day-trippers fell by 6.4%, while long-stay visitors staying more than 15 nights decreased by 5.1%. The Canary Islands was the top tourist destination, receiving 1.2 million tourists, a 3.3% increase compared to January 2025. It was followed by Catalonia with 1 million visitors, up 4.1%, and Andalusia, with 0.8 million, up 1.1%.

Spain registered about 5.1 million international visitors during January 2026, 1.2% more than in the same month of 2025 and setting a new record for the month. The United Kingdom remained the leading source of tourists, sending 897,095 visitors, a 3.3% increase compared to January 2025. Germany accounted for 527,327 tourists (–2%), while France lagged behind, with 517,788 arrivals (-19.5%). The most common length of stay for tourists was four to seven nights, with over 2.2 million visitors, reflecting a 2.1% year-on-year increase. In contrast, day-trippers decreased by 2.2%, while tourists staying more than 15 nights fell sharply by 9.1%. The Canary Islands was the top tourist destination, receiving 1.4 million tourists, a 4.9% increase compared to January 2025. It was followed by Catalonia with 1 million visitors, down 6.2%, and the Community of Madrid, with 0.8 million, up 8.8%.
