Industrial production in Slovakia decreased by 2.0% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a 3.2% drop in the previous month but still worse than market expectations of a 0.3% fall.

This was the fourth consecutive month of decline, amid lower output in 11 out of the 15 monitored industrial sectors.

A smaller decline was observed in the manufacture of transport equipment (-2.4% vs -5.4% in April), which continued to have the largest impact on overall production.

At the same time, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products rose 17.8%, accelerating from a 4.6% increase in the previous month.

On the other hand, output in electricity and gas supply fell further (-3.7% vs -0.6%), and the manufacture of computer, electronic, and optical products dropped sharply (-10.3% vs 4.3%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production was unchanged.

In the first five months of 2026, industrial production was 1.3% lower than in the same period a year earlier.

Slovakia Industrial Output Drops Faster in April
Industrial production in Slovakia dropped by 3.2% year-on-year in April 2026, better than market expectations for a 3.5% contraction, though a sharper decline than the slightly downwardly revised 0.8% fall in March. The latest reading marked the third consecutive month of contraction in industrial activity and the steepest decline in the current downturn, as output fell in 10 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors. The manufacture of transport equipment remained the biggest drag on production, with output declining by 5.4% (vs -5.3% in March), followed by an 8.1% drop (vs -4.1%) in the manufacture of basic metals and an 11.4% fall (vs -45.7%) in coke and refined petroleum products. Partly offsetting these declines were gains in the manufacture of electrical equipment (5% vs 9.8%), and machinery and equipment (3.4% vs 3.2%). On a seasonally adjusted basis, industrial production was unchanged from the previous month.

Slovakia Industrial Production Falls at Softer Pace
Industrial production in Slovakia fell 0.9% year-on-year in March 2026, improving from a 2.9% drop in February. The easing in the pace of decline was partly driven by a smaller drag from key industries, even as weakness persisted in core manufacturing sectors. The manufacture of transport equipment remained the main negative contributor, falling nearly 6% for a second consecutive month. Refined petroleum products also continued to weigh on output, plunging almost 46% year-on-year, though the broader industrial downturn was less severe than in prior months. This was partially offset by stronger performance in smaller sectors, including a 12% increase in food production and nearly 6% growth in electricity and gas supply. Overall, 7 of 15 monitored industrial sectors still recorded declines, but their combined impact was less pronounced than in February. On a seasonally adjusted basis, industrial production rose 0.7%.
