Slovakia Industrial Output Rebounds in June

Industrial production in Slovakia grew by 2.4% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating from a 2.1% rise in June and marking the third increase this year. The growth was supported by higher output in 10 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors, led by the manufacture of motor vehicles, which surged 9.2% and recorded its strongest growth so far this year. Its result was partly boosted by a calendar shift in the annual plant-wide holiday at a key manufacturer, which operated for an additional week in July compared with a year earlier. Output also increased sharply in the manufacture of machinery and equipment (11.9%) and basic metals (5.5%). By contrast, production of computer, electronic and optical products plunged 41%, while coke and refined petroleum products fell 17.8%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production decreased 0.7%, the same pace as in the preceding period. In the first seven months of 2026, industrial activity declined 0.4% year-on-year.

Industrial production in Slovakia increased by 2.1% year-on-year in June 2026, defying expectations of a 0.6% fall, ending a four-month period of decline and marking the second increase this year. The recovery was supported by higher output in 10 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors, led by the manufacture of basic metals, which rose 6.6% and made the largest positive contribution to overall growth. Output also increased sharply in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (30.8%) and machinery and equipment n.e.c. (6.6%), while the manufacture of motor vehicles returned to growth after four months of decline, rising 1.7%. By contrast, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products fell 36.5%, making the largest negative contribution to industrial production. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production decreased 0.7%. In the first half of 2026, industrial production declined 0.8% year-on-year.

Industrial production in Slovakia decreased by 2.0% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a 3.2% drop in the previous month but still worse than market expectations of a 0.3% fall. This was the fourth consecutive month of decline, amid lower output in 11 out of the 15 monitored industrial sectors. A smaller decline was observed in the manufacture of transport equipment (-2.4% vs -5.4% in April), which continued to have the largest impact on overall production. At the same time, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products rose 17.8%, accelerating from a 4.6% increase in the previous month. On the other hand, output in electricity and gas supply fell further (-3.7% vs -0.6%), and the manufacture of computer, electronic, and optical products dropped sharply (-10.3% vs 4.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production was unchanged. In the first five months of 2026, industrial production was 1.3% lower than in the same period a year earlier.
