It was the second straight month of annual increase in construction production after twelve consecutive months of decline, as civil engineering works grew by 5.8 percent and construction of buildings went up by 2.2 percent. In the first four months of 2017, construction output fell by 3.6 percent compared with the corresponding period of 2016.

Industrial production in Slovakia decreased by 3.2 percent year-on-year in April of 2017, following a downwardly revised 13 percent rise in March. It was the first fall in industrial production since July 2016, as output declined for manufacturing (-3.9 percent from 14.3 percent in March), dragged by transport equipment (-8.4 percent from 12.7 percent); repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-16.1 percent from 4.3 percent); machinery and equipment (-10.3 percent from 11.6 percent); and electrical equipment (-4.8 percent from 14.1 percent). Also, mining and quarrying shrank by 7.4 percent (from 1.7 percent in March). In contrast, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply rose 4.2 percent, the same pace as in the previous month. Considering the first four months of the year, industrial production increased by 4.9 percent compared with the same period of 2016.
