Industrial production in Slovakia dropped by 3.2% year-on-year in April 2026, better than market expectations for a 3.5% contraction, though a sharper decline than the slightly downwardly revised 0.8% fall in March.
The latest reading marked the third consecutive month of contraction in industrial activity and the steepest decline in the current downturn, as output fell in 10 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors.
The manufacture of transport equipment remained the biggest drag on production, with output declining by 5.4% (vs -5.3% in March), followed by an 8.1% drop (vs -4.1%) in the manufacture of basic metals and an 11.4% fall (vs -45.7%) in coke and refined petroleum products.
Partly offsetting these declines were gains in the manufacture of electrical equipment (5% vs 9.8%), and machinery and equipment (3.4% vs 3.2%).
On a seasonally adjusted basis, industrial production was unchanged from the previous month.
