Consumer sentiment in Mexico edged up to 44.4 in April 2026 from an upwardly revised 44.2 in March, pointing to a modest improvement, although consumers remained broadly pessimistic.

Assessments of current economic conditions (29.6 vs. 29.2) and future household prospects (57.8 vs. 56.9) improved slightly, while inflation expectations eased (15.2 vs. 16.0).

Meanwhile, expectations for the broader economy were little changed (45.3 vs. 45.4), and views on the labor market weakened somewhat (46.4 vs. 47.5).

Mexico Consumer Confidence at Lowest Since 2022
Mexico’s Consumer Confidence Index fell 0.7 points to 43.5 in May 2026 from April, reaching its lowest level since December 2022 as households grew more pessimistic about current and future economic conditions. All five components of the index declined during the month. The sharpest decreases were recorded in perceptions of the country's economic outlook over the next 12 months, which fell 1.6 points to 43.3, and assessments of the current national economic situation, down 1.0 point to 37.3. Confidence in current household finances declined 0.7 points to 50.2, while willingness to purchase durable goods fell by the same margin to 28.6. Expectations for household finances over the next year also weakened, slipping 0.3 points to 57.5. Compared with May 2025, consumer confidence was 3.4 points lower.

Consumer confidence in Mexico edged down to 44.1 in March 2026 from 44.4 in February, reflecting a more pessimistic assessment of the country’s economic conditions (38.8 vs. 40.0) and a decline in consumers’ current ability to purchase durable goods (29.1 vs. 30.3). Expectations for the broader economy remained unchanged at 45.1. On a more positive note, perceptions of the overall household situation improved slightly (51.0 vs. 50.8), as did expectations for future household conditions (56.7 vs. 56.2).
