Malaysia Food Prices Hold Steady at 1.5% for 3rd Month

Food prices in Malaysia rose 1.5% year-on-year in December 2025, matching figures in the prior two months and remaining at their softest pace since August 2021.

Prices continued to increase for food at home (0.3% vs 0.1% in November), meat (0.7% vs 0.7%), fish & other seafood (2.2% vs 2.1%), oils & fats (0.9% vs 1.3%), fruits & nuts (0.9% vs 0.9%), sugar, confectionery & desserts (0.7% vs 0.8%), and food away from home (2.7% vs 2.8%).

In contrast, cost fell further for cereals & cereal products (-0.5% vs -0.5%), milk, other dairy products & eggs (-0.1% vs -1.0%), and vegetables (-4.2% vs -6.1%).

Food prices in Malaysia rose 1.5% year-on-year in November 2025, the same pace as in the previous month and remaining at the mildest increase since August 2021. Prices of food away from home eased slightly (2.8% vs 2.9% in October), while the cost of food at home edged up 0.1% after remaining unchanged for the previous two months. Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for fish and other seafood (2.1% vs 1.7%) and sugar, confectionery, and desserts (1.0% vs 0.9%), while meat prices recovered (0.7% vs -0.7%). Price increases moderated for oils and fats (1.3% vs 1.5%), and fruit and nut prices rebounded (0.9% vs 1.0%). At the same time, prices declined for cereals and cereal products (-0.5% vs -0.5%), vegetables (-6.1% vs -6.0%), and milk, dairy products, and eggs (-1.0% vs 0.6%).

Food prices in Malaysia rose 1.5% year-on-year in October 2025, moderating from a 2.1% increase in the previous month and marking the mildest pace since August 2021. Prices of food away from home eased sharply (2.9% vs 4.4% in September) while the cost of food at home was unchanged for the second month in a row. At the same time, prices declined further for cereals and cereal products (-0.5% vs -0.6%), meat (-0.7% vs -0.1%), and vegetables (-6.0% vs -5.5%). Conversely, inflation accelerated for fish and other seafood (1.7% vs 1.5%), oils and fats (1.5% vs 1.3%), and sugar, confectionery, and desserts (0.9% vs 0.7%). Prices of milk, dairy products, and eggs picked up (0.6% vs flat reading) while those of fruits and nuts rebounded (1.0% vs -0.1%).
