Malaysia Food Prices Stable for 5th Month

Food prices in Malaysia rose 1.5% year-on-year in January 2026, matching figures in the prior four months and staying at their softest pace since August 2021.
Prices continued to increase for food at home (0.6% vs 0.3% in December), meat (1.3% vs 0.7%), fish & other seafood (2.2% vs 2.2%), oils & fats (0.3% vs 0.9%), fruits & nuts (0.5% vs 0.9%), sugar, confectionery & desserts (0.7% vs 0.7%), and food away from home (2.5% vs 2.7%).
Meanwhile, the cost of milk, other dairy products & eggs grew 0.3%, rebounding from a 0.1% fall previously.
In contrast, cost remained weak for cereals & cereal products (-0.3% vs -0.5%) and vegetables (-3.0% vs -4.2%).
