Latvia Annual Inflation Accelerates

Latvia’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.2% in August 2026 from 2.6% in the previous month.

The acceleration was mainly due to higher price growth for transports, which rose sharply to 8.6% from 4.8% in July, as well as recreation, sports and culture (6.5% vs 4.8%), restaurants and hotels (7.6% vs 6.9%), health (4.2% vs 3.8%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.8% vs 1.1%) and insurance and financial services (6.8% vs 5.9%).

Meanwhile, inflation for housing and utilities remained unchanged at 6.8%.

In contrast, food prices continued to decline, falling sharply by 4% compared with a 3.1% drop in the prior month, while inflation moderated for clothing and footwear (0.7% vs 1.1%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.3% following a 0.7% decline in July.

Latvia's annual inflation rate was unchanged at 3.2% in September 2026, holding steady from August. Inflation accelerated for transport (12.6% vs 8.6%), housing and utilities (7.3% vs 6.8%), furnishings (1.8% vs 0.5%) and information and communication (1.4% vs 1.1%). Meanwhile, inflation eased for restaurants and hotels (5.7% vs 7.6%), recreation, sports and culture (5.6% vs 6.5%), health (2.9% vs 4.2%), education (1.8% vs 3.4%) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.3% vs 2.8%), and stood unchanged at 6.8% for insurance and financial services. Food prices fell 4.8%, a steeper decline than the 4% drop in August, while clothing and footwear prices declined 0.4% after a 0.7% rise. On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.2%, following a 0.3% increase in August.

Latvia Annual Inflation Slows in July
Latvia’s annual inflation rate eased to 2.6% in July 2026 from 3.4% in June, the lowest since February. The slowdown was mainly driven by a sharper decline in food prices, which fell 3.1% after a 0.9% drop in June. Inflation also eased for housing and utilities (6.8% vs 7.2%), transport (4.8% vs 7.1%), restaurants and hotels (6.9% vs 7.9%), healthcare (3.8% vs 4%), information and communications (1.5% vs 2.1%) and furnishings (1.1% vs 1.4%). Meanwhile, inflation stood at 4.8% for recreation, sports and culture and 3.5% for education. In contrast, price growth accelerated for insurance and financial services (5.9% vs 5.2%) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.1% vs 0.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.7%, following a flat reading in June.
