On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, after decreasing 0.2 percent in August.

Industrial production in Latvia jumped 12.1 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, following a 8.8 percent increase in the previous month. It is the strongest expansion in industrial production since June of 2011. Output grew sharply for manufacturing (12.1 percent vs 8.2 percent in July), particularly boosted by higher production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (49.1 percent vs 13.1 percent); leather and leather products (36.8 percent vs 2.6 percent); chemicals and chemical products (30.5 percent vs 5.1 percent) and metal products (34.9 percent vs 18 percent). Also, electricity and gas supply rose faster (10.6 percent vs 7.7 percent). Meanwhile, mining activity slowed (20.4 percent vs 28.6 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial output went up 1.2 percent, compared to a 0.1 percent increase in July. Considering the January to August period, industrial production surged 9.4 percent.

Latvia's retail trade increased 5.3 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, following an upwardly revised 4.6 percent rise in the previous month. It is the biggest gain in retail trade since August of 2015, boosted by higher sales of: food, beverages and tobacco (7.7 percent vs 6.2 percent in July) and non-food products (4.1 percent vs 3.5 percent), of which information and communication equipment (18.8 percent vs 12 percent); cultural and recreation goods (18.9 percent vs 13.8 percent); sports equipment, games and toys (31.3 percent vs 20.6 percent). Also, sales of automotive fuel fell less (-2.1 percent vs -2.6 percent) and those via mail or Internet decreased 1.5 percent (the same pace as in July). On a monthly basis, retail sales went up 0.6 percent compared to an upwardly revised 1 percent increase in July.

Latvia GDP Annual Growth Rate at 4.00 percent  
The Latvian economy advanced 4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, the same pace as in the previous period and lower than preliminary estimates of 4.1 percent growth, final figures showed. Growth was mainly boosted by construction (15.9 percent vs 8.4 percent in Q1); public administration (4.4 percent vs 3.1 percent); information and communication (5.4 percent vs -0.1 percent); accommodation and food services (7.1 percent vs 4.2 percent); manufacturing (7.1 percent vs 10.3 percent) and wholesale and retail trade (3.1 percent vs 5 percent). Also, agriculture rose significantly (6.6 percent vs 2.5 percent). In contrast, output contracted for finance and insurance (-8.6 percent vs -10.7 percent) and real estate activities (-0.2 percent vs 0.4 percent). On a seasonally adjusted basis, the GDP expanded 1.2 percent, following an upwardly revised 1.7 percent growth in the first quarter of the year.
