New car sales in Indonesia jumped 28.1% year-on-year to 79,450 units in September 2026, though easing from a 32.4% surge in August and marking the sixth consecutive month of expansion, according to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO).
The deceleration in growth came as the sharper increases in July and August were partly boosted by the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, held from July 29 to August 9.
For the first nine months of the year, sales advanced 21% from the same period a year earlier to 679,020 units, highlighting resilient consumer demand despite inflationary pressures and higher non-subsidized fuel prices.
GAIKINDO previously targeted domestic new car sales to reach 850,000 units this year.
That figure represents 5.8% growth from the 2025 total of 803,687 units.
Meanwhile, retail new car sales grew 27.4% from a year earlier to 81,243 units in September.
On a monthly basis, car sales fell 2.7%.
