Indonesia Car Sales Fall 13.8% in March

New car sales in Indonesia dropped 13.8% year-on-year to 61,271 units in March 2026, reversing an upwardly revised 12.3% surge in the previous month.

The decline was due to the long Eid al-Fitr holiday.

However, for the first quarter of the year, car sales rose 1.7% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 209,021 units.

The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) previously targeted domestic new car sales to reach 850,000 units in 2026.

That figure represents a 5.8% increase from the 2025 total of 803,687 units.

On a monthly basis, car sales also declined, plunging 24.6% from February, when they recorded 81,250 units.

Meanwhile, retail new car sales fell 14.8% month-on-month to 66,637 units.

Indonesia Car Sales Up 12.2% in February
New car sales in Indonesia climbed 12.2% year-on-year to 81,159 units in February 2026, following a 7.0% rise in the previous month. The increase signaled that demand for new vehicles is gradually improving after weakening in January, supported by stronger interest in electric vehicles and a broader recovery in Indonesia’s automotive sector. On a monthly basis, car sales surged 22.1%. In the January-February period, total wholesales reached 147,631 units. Meanwhile, retail new car sales jumped 16.7% month-on-month to 78,219 units.

New car registrations in Indonesia surged 25.7% year-on-year to 100,163 units in December 2025, rebounding sharply from a 0.8% decline in November. The year-end boost was supported by seasonal promotions and heightened consumer demand during the long holiday season. For the full year, total vehicle sales reached 808,450 units, down 6.8% from 2024, reflecting broader market softness despite the strong December finish.
