India Unemployment Rate Approaches Record Low

The unemployment rate in India was at 5.2% in July of 2025, dropping sharply from the 5.6% in the previous month, the lowest since the record low of 5.1% from April.
The value indicated the broad strength in the Indian economy before the sharp increase in tariffs by the US, which are expected to threaten key industries of the domestic economy should they not be reverted by the end of the September quarter.
The unemployment rate for the male population was at 5.3%, offset by the lower unemployment rate in the female population (5.2%).
In turn, youth unemployment, which captures the jobless rate for those aged between 15 and 29 years, was at 14.9%.
