The Asian Development Bank (ADB) revised its GDP growth forecasts for developing Asia and the Pacific for this year and next, citing strong demand for products from the region’s high-tech economies and faster-than-expected growth in India.
Growth in 2025 is now projected at 5.1%, up from the 4.8% forecast in September, the ADB said in an update to its Asian Development Outlook on Wednesday, and above the 4.9% projection it issued when the report was first released in April.
The bank also raised its 2026 growth forecast for the region to 4.6% from 4.5%, citing reduced trade uncertainty after several US trade deals.
The agency revised India’s 2025 GDP forecast to 7.2% from 6.5%, following an 8.2% growth in the fiscal second quarter ending in September, which exceeded expectations.
China’s 2025 outlook edged up to 4.8% from 4.7%, still below Beijing’s 5.0% target, while the 2026 projection remained unchanged at 4.3%, reflecting continued weakness in the country’s property market.
