India Fiscal Deficit Narrows in April-January

India's fiscal deficit narrowed to INR 11.03 trillion in April-January 2023-24, down from INR 11.91 trillion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
This current deficit represents 63.6% of the government's projection for the current financial year, in contrast to the 67.8% recorded during the same period last year.
Total expenditure increased by 5.9% to reach INR 33.55 trillion, while receipts grew by 13.9% to INR 22.52 trillion.
India aims to conclude the current fiscal year with a budget deficit of 5.9% of GDP.
