Finnish Industrial Output Growth Slows in August

Industrial production in Finland rose by 0.8% year-on-year in August 2026, slowing from a slightly upwardly revised 4.6% gain in the previous month.

This marked the softest growth in industrial activity since May, driven by a sharp 15.8% decline (vs -12.8% in July) in mining production.

Output growth also softened in the manufacturing sector (0.3% vs 5.4%) as lower activity in printing and reproduction of recorded media (-13.2% vs -8.6%), chemical industry (-9.0% vs 0.8%), and manufacture of furniture (-17.5% vs -16.6%) outweighed increased output in the food industry (3.6% vs -1.2%) and textile, clothing and leather industry (2.3% vs -2.5%).

On the other hand, production increased at a faster pace for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (7.5% vs 3.1%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity decreased by 1.3% in August, slipping further from a 1.1% loss in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Finland rose by 4.5% year-on-year in July 2026, marking the strongest growth since March and accelerating from a downwardly revised 4.4% gain in the previous month. The increase was largely driven by higher output in the manufacturing sector, rising 5.3% after a 4.1% gain in June, as increased activity in the metal (9.5% vs 9.6%) and chemical industry (1.9% vs -3.5%) more than offset declines in the manufacture of furniture (-17.4% vs -17.9%) and printing and reproduction of recorded media (-6.1% vs -7.9%). Meanwhile, mining output dropped 13% after rising 4.8% in the previous month, while production growth softened for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (3.1% vs 6.7%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity decreased by 1% in July, slipping from a downwardly revised 1.9% increase in the preceding period.

Finnish Industrial Output Picks Up in June
Industrial production in Finland grew by 4.5% year-on-year in June 2026, accelerating from a 0.5% rise in the previous month. Output growth was strongest in the electricity, gas, heating and air conditioning supply industry, where production increased by 5.4% after falling 0.1% in May, while activity for mining and quarrying recovered sharply, up 4.2% after a 10% drop in the prior month. Manufacturing production (4.4% vs 0.6%) also increased faster, reflecting higher output in the forest industry (8.3% vs 1.9%) and the metal sector (9% vs 2.7%). In contrast, output mainly declined for textile, clothing and leather industry (-7.2% vs 4.4%), printing and reproduction of recorded media (-8.5% vs -10.1%), and furniture (-20.3% vs -8.7%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity rose by 2.1%, rebounding from an upwardly revised 1.7% decrease in the preceding period.
