Finnish annual inflation rate rose to 0.5 percent in October of 2017, easing from 0.8 percent increase in the previous month. It was the lowest inflation rate since July, as prices went up less for both housing and utilities (1.4 percent from 1.6 percent in September) and transport (0.9 percent from 2.7 percent). Meantime, prices of restaurants and hotels rose more (2.4 percent from 2.1 percent). In contrast, cost continued to fall for: Food and alcoholic beverages (-0.3 percent from -0.4 percent in September); recreation and culture (-0.5 percent from -1.0 percent); clothing and footwear (-2.2 percent from -1.8 percent); furnishing (-1.2 percent from -1.3 percent), and communication (-1.1 percent from -2.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat, compared to a 0.2 percent rise in September.

It was the strongest economic activity since May, as the services output rose at a faster pace (3.98 percent from 3.19 percent in August). Meanwhile, slower growth was reported for secondary production (2.96 percent from 3.95 percent) and agriculture, forestry and fishing (2.06 percent from 5.06 percent).

Meanwhile, imports went up at a faster 11 percent to EUR 5.17 billion. Purchases from EU countries rose 10 percent and those from non-EU countries expanded by 12 percent. Considering January to September 2017, the trade deficit narrowed to EUR 1.7 billion from EUR 2.1 billion in the same period of 2016.

Producer prices in Finland rose 4 percent year-on-year in September of 2017, accelerating from a 3.8 percent rise in August.
