Finland's annual inflation rate eased to a 15-month low of 0.8 percent in July 2019 from 1 percent in the previous month. Prices rose at a softer rate for housing & utilities (1.6% vs 2.2% in June), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.7% vs 1.1%), miscellaneous goods & services (0.2% vs 1.3%), restaurants & hotels (1% vs 2.1%), and furnishings & household equipment (0.6% vs 1%). In addition, cost of recreation & culture fell further (-0.5% vs -0.8%). In contrast, inflation was steady for both transport (at 0.1%), and education (at 1.2%), while prices advanced faster for health (1.1% vs 0.8%), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.9% vs 3.4%), and communication (1% vs 0.1%), with cost of clothing & footwear rebounding (0.2% vs -1.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined by 0.3 percent in July, shifting from a 0.1 percent gain in June.

Output rose faster for manufacturing (3.4 percent vs 0.9 percent in May) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (15.1 percent vs 10.8 percent). Within manufacturing, production advanced further for both chemical industry (6.4 percent vs 5.6 percent) and wood and wood products (0.8 percent vs 02 percent) while output slowed for machinery and metal industry (2.3 percent vs 3.8 percent) and leather and related products (9.1 percent vs 12 percent). Also, production dropped less for non-metallic mineral products (-1.7 percent vs -6.1 percent). In addition, mining and quarrying output fell at a softer pace (-39.8 percent vs -49.5 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output rose 1.2 percent, after a downwardly revised 2.6 percent fall in May.

Exports fell 3 percent year-on-year to EUR 5.245 billion, as sales decreased for transport vehicles; forest industry products, machinery and equipment, and chemical products. Exports declined to Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, and the UK. On the other hand, shipments rose for the US, China, and Russia. Sales to the EU went down 7 percent while those to outside EU fell 3 percent. Imports dropped at a faster 10 percent to EUR 5.050 billion. Purchases from the EU plunged 14 percent, and those from outside EU dropped 3 percent. Considering the first half of the year, the trade balance recorded a surplus of EUR 130 million, compared with a deficit of EUR 1.2 billion in the same period of 2018.

Producer prices in Finland declined 0.9 percent year-on-year in June of 2019, reversing from a 0.9 percent rise in the previous month. This was the first decrease in producer prices since October 2016, as producer prices for export products fell faster (-1.6 percent vs -0.2 percent in May) while manufactured products sold on the domestic market prices dropped (-0.3 percent vs 1.8 percent). Export prices were mainly dragged by lower prices of oil products and basic metals. Import prices was especially caused by lower prices of oil products, waste and basic metals.
