Danish Manufacturing Output Drops 5.7% in November

Denmark’s manufacturing production fell 1% month-on-month in December 2025, slowing from an upwardly revised 5.8% drop in the previous month. This marked the third consecutive month of decline, albeit at a softer pace as output recovered for chemicals and oil refineries (24.2% vs -26.1% in November), basic metals (2% vs -13.1%), electrical equipment (3.3% vs -6.2%), and transport equipment (4.8% vs -0.7%). At the same time, contraction eased for food, beverages, and tobacco (-1.1% vs -2.5%), paper products and printing (-1.9% vs -2.2%), and pharmaceuticals (-6.2% vs -10.9%). On the other hand, activity declined for textiles and leather products (-1.9% vs 0.5%), electrical components (-12.1% vs 1.2%), and machinery (-1.2% vs 2%). On a non-seasonally adjusted year-on-year basis, manufacturing production decreased by 6.7% in December, following a downwardly revised 2.5% drop in the preceding period.

Denmark’s manufacturing production fell 5.7% month-on-month in November 2025, following an upwardly revised 4.0% decline in the previous month. It marked the second consecutive monthly drop and was mainly driven by a sharp contraction in the pharmaceutical industry (-10.8% vs -11.6% in October). With a weight of 20.9% in the overall index, this industry group contributed the most to the overall decline. Production also contracted in transport equipment (-7.5% vs -25.9%), plastic, glass & concrete (-8.5% vs -3.0%), electronic components (-3.4% vs -1.4%), and metal and fabricated metal products (-6.0% vs 21.0%). On a non-seasonally adjusted year-on-year basis, manufacturing output fell 2.6% in November, reversing an upwardly revised 0.8% rise in October.

Denmark’s manufacturing production dropped by 3.5% month-on-month in October 2025, reversing an upwardly revised 8.6% rise in the previous month, which had been the strongest increase since April 2024. The decline in October was driven by a sharp contraction in the pharmaceutical industry (-11.6% vs 25.9% in September), transport equipment (-25.9% vs 35.3%), plastic, glass & concrete (-3.0% vs 2.3%), and electronic components (-1.4% vs 9.7%). Conversely, production rebounded strongly in metal and fabricated metal products (21.0% vs -7.6%), while food, beverages, and tobacco recovered slightly (1.1% vs -1.0%). On a non-seasonally adjusted yearly basis, manufacturing output edged up 0.2% in October, following an upwardly revised 10.7% surge in the preceding period.
