Within manufacturing production, there was a contraction in machinery (-3.7 percent from -3.9 percent in October), pharmaceuticals (-6.2 percent from -3.4 percent) and furniture and other manufacturing (-6.6 percent from -14.1 percent). Meanwhile, output rose for food products, beverages and tobacco (0.9 percent from 4.5 percent in October); chemicals and oil refineries (11.9 percent from 8.6 percent); basic metals and fabricated metal products (2.8 percent from 14.3 percent); and plastic, glass and concrete (4.8 percent from 9.9 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production increased 2.1 percent.

It was the smallest trade surplus since July as exports rose less than imports. Exports increased 2 percent to DKK 57.7 billion, mainly due to an increase in sales of manufactured goods (4.7 percent), and transport equipment (11.6 percent). Meanwhile, imports rose 4.1 percent to DKK 54 billion, due to a rise in purchases of: manufactured goods (5.3 percent); vessels, aircraft etc (60.7 percent), and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials 58.1 percent). In the first eleven months of 2017, the trade surplus narrowed to DKK 60.8 billion from DKK 61.85 billion in the same period of 2016.

The Danish economy contracted 0.5 percent on quarter in the three months to September of 2017, following a 0.6 percent expansion in the previous period, and below preliminary estimate of 0.6 percent contraction, final figure showed. It was the first contract in economy since the fourth quarter 2015, as government spending contracted (-0.1 percent from 0.2 percent in Q2) while household consumption decreased 0.7 percent (from -0.4 percent in Q2) and net external demand contributed negatively. Exports dropped 0.5 percent (stalled in Q2) and imports fell 0.5 percent (0.1 percent in Q2). In contrast, fixed investment grew (1.6 percent from 2.7 percent in Q2). Year-on-year, the economy expanded 1.5 percent, below a 2.5 percent expansion in the prior quarter but beating market consensus of a 1.3 percent expansion.
