Danish Consumer Morale Weakens in July

Denmark’s consumer confidence fell to -14.7 in July 2026 from a three-month high of -14.0 in June, but remained above the six-month average of -15.7. The slight decline reflected weaker assessments of the country's current economic conditions (-23.8 vs -21.8) and lower willingness to make major purchases (-16.9 vs -13.9), despite improved expectations for household finances over the next year (-3.5 vs -5.3). Consumers also viewed their financial situation over the past 12 months slightly less favorably (-10.5 vs -10.1), while expectations for Denmark's economy in the year ahead deteriorated (-19.1 vs -18.7). Meanwhile, perceptions of current price growth eased (30.4 vs 37.2), and inflation expectations for the next 12 months moderated (25.0 vs 29.9). Although concerns about unemployment eased (15.0 vs 17.8), households continued to expect joblessness to increase over the next 12 months.

Denmark’s consumer confidence rose to -14.0 in June 2026 from -19.8 in May, reaching its highest level since March. Consumers were less pessimistic about the overall economy, both regarding the current situation (-21.8 vs -35.9 in May) and expectations for the next 12 months (-18.7 vs -26.7). Households’ assessments of their own finances also strengthened, for both the past year (-10.1 vs -13.6) and the year ahead (-5.3 vs -9.5). However, sentiment toward making major purchases deteriorated slightly (-13.9 vs -13.2). Among indicators outside the headline index, price expectations eased for both the present (37.2 vs 44.0) and the next 12 months (29.9 vs 40.8), while concerns about unemployment over the coming year also moderated (17.8 vs 22.2).

Denmark’s consumer confidence index fell to -19.8 in May 2026 from -18.6 in the previous month, remaining at its lowest level since November 2025. Expectations for the overall economic situation deteriorated further for the present (-35.9 vs -31.8 in April), while views for the year ahead improved slightly but remained negative (-26.7 vs -27.5). At the same time, households’ assessments of their financial situation worsened for both the present (-9.5 vs -6.8) and the future (-13.6 vs -12.5). Sentiment regarding major purchases improved marginally but stayed negative (-13.2 vs -14.6). Among components not included in the overall confidence indicator, consumers reported higher perceived prices at present (44.0 vs 36.8), while inflation expectations for the next 12 months eased slightly (40.8 vs 43.7). Meanwhile, concerns about unemployment over the coming year continued to rise (22.2 vs 20.0).
