Czechia Inflation Rate at 3-Month High

The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic rose to 1.9% in August 2026 from 1.7% in the previous month, in line with market expectations, according to preliminary estimates.

The reading marked the highest inflation rate since May, driven mainly by a stronger increase in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.7% vs 3.7% in July), while inflation also rebounded for energy (2.3% vs -0.3%) and goods (0.2% vs -0.2%).

Meanwhile, price growth eased for services (4.5% vs 4.7%), while deflation deepened for food and soft drinks (-4.3% vs -3.1%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices eased 0.3% in August from a 0.6% increase in July.

Czech Republic Inflation Confirmed at 1.7% in July
The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic rose to 1.7% year-on-year in July 2026, confirming preliminary estimates and up from 1.5% in June. Price growth accelerated for housing and utilities (1.6% vs 1.3%), transport (6.6% vs 5.7%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (1.6% vs 1.3%), and health (3.7% vs 3.4%). Meanwhile, deflation eased in food and non-alcoholic beverages (-3.1% vs -3.4%). At the same time, price growth moderated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.7% vs 4.3%), recreation, sports, and culture (0.9% vs 2.7%), restaurants and accommodation services (4.3% vs 4.5%), and information and communication (1.8% vs 1.9%). Inflation was unchanged for education (4.0%) and personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services (3.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.6% in July, rebounding from a 0.3% decline in June and marking the highest monthly increase since March.

Service price inflation picked up (4.7% vs. 4.5% in June), while deflation eased for food and beverages (-3.1% vs. -3.4%), energy (-0.3% vs. -1.0%), and goods (-0.2% vs. -0.4%). Meanwhile, inflation slowed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.7% vs. 4.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.6% in July, rebounding from a 0.3% decline in June and marking the strongest monthly increase since March.
