Czech Republic Producer Prices Change at 3.20 percent  
Producer prices in Czech Republic increased 3.2 percent year-on-year in September of 2018, easing from a 3.3 percent rise in the prior month, in line with market consensus. It was the softest producer inflation since June, as prices advanced less for mining and quarrying (9.9 percent vs 10.1 percent in August) and manufacturing (3.0 percent vs 3.2 percent), particularly chemicals & chemical products (7.6 percent vs 8.1 percent) and basic metals, fabricated metal products (3.5 percent vs 4.1 percent). Also, producer inflation was steady for water supply (at 1.9 percent). In contrast, cost went up faster for electricity supply (2.7 percent vs 2.6 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices inched up 0.3 percent, following a 0.1 percent increase in August and slightly above market expectations of a 0.2 percent gain.

Annual inflation rate in Czech Republic declined to 2.3% in September of 2018 from 2.5% in the previous month. Prices increased at a slower pace for transport (3.2% from 4.8% in August), as cost eased for fuels & lubricants (11.7% from 12.4%) and dropped for transport services (-7.2% from 1%); recreation & culture (0.4% from 3%), due to lower prices of package holidays (1.9% from 13.6%); restaurant & hotels (3.1% from 3.6%) and furniture & household equipment (1.6% from 2.1%); and fell further for clothing & footwear (-1.5% from -1.4%). Contrarily, cost advanced faster for housing & utilities (3.4% from 3.2%); food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.3% from 0.6%), mainly due to vegetables (13.4% from -0.3%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.3% from 2.3%) and miscellaneous goods & services (4.1% from 3.8%). In addition, prices dropped slightly less for communication (-1.4% from -1.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged down 0.3%, following a 0.1% gain in August.

Czech Republic Interest Rate at 1.50 percent  
The Czech National Bank raised its benchmark two-week repo rate by 25bps to 1.5 percent on September 26th 2018, in line with market expectations. It was the fourth interest rate hike this year and follows a similar 25bps hike in the previous meeting. Also, the lombard rate and the discount rate were increased by 25bps to 2.5 percent and to 0.5 percent, respectively. Inflation rate is projected to be above the central bank’s target of 2 percent for the rest of this year, to return to the target in 2019 and to remain close to the target during 2020. Czech annual inflation rate picked up to 2.5 percent in August from 2.3 percent in July. Policymakers added there is general uncertainty due to global protectionist measures and Brexit-related events.

Czech Republic GDP Annual Growth Rate at 2.40 percent  
The Czech economy expanded 2.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018, higher than a preliminary estimate of 2.3 percent, slowing from a 4.2 percent in the previous period and above market expectations of 2.3 percent, a final estimate showed. It was the weakest growth rate since the last quarter of 2016. Main drivers of growth were household consumption (3.5 percent), government spending (2.6 percent) and fixed capital formation (7.8 percent). Meanwhile, the contribution of net foreign demand was negative, as exports rose 3.5 percent and imports advanced at a faster 4.4 percent. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP grew 0.7 percent, above than a preliminary estimate of a 0.5 percent expansion, after expanding 0.5 percent in the prior period and beating market forecasts of a 0.5 percent growth.
