Czech Republic Producer Prices Change at 3.40 percent  
Producer prices in Czech Republic increased 3.4 percent year-on-year in July of 2018, following a 2.9 percent rise in the previous month and above market expectations of 3.1 percent. It was the highest producer inflation rate since February of 2012, as cost advanced faster for mining & quarrying (8.4 percent from 8.0 percent in June) and basic metals & fabricated metal products (3.6 percent from 3.5 percent). Also, prices fell at a softer pace for transport equipment (-0.8 percent from -1.3 percent) and thereof parts & accessories for motor vehicles (-1.6 percent from -2.4 percent). Meanwhile, cost dropped further for food products, beverages & tobacco (-0.7 percent from -0.6 percent) and inflation was steady for electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning’ (2.3 percent, the same as in June). On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 0.3 percent, slowing from a 0.6 percent gain in June and higher than market consensus of 0.1 percent.

Czech Republic GDP Annual Growth Rate at 2.30 percent  
The Czech economy grew 2.3 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018, easing from a downwardly revised 4.2 percent expansion in the previous period and missing market expectations of 2.6 percent, a preliminary estimate showed. It was the weakest growth rate since the last quarter of 2016. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP rose 0.5 percent in the second quarter, the same pace as in the previous period.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2%, easing from a 0.4% gain in June.

Czech industrial production rose 3.4 percent year-on-year in June of 2017, following a 1.4 percent increase in May and exceeding market expectations of a 1.6 percent gain. Output grew faster for: electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (16.4 percent vs 3.8 percent in May); mining and quarrying (9.0 percent vs 6.3 percent), boosted by coal and lignite (12.4 percent vs 2.1 percent) and manufacturing (2.1 percent vs 1.0 percent), mostly machinery and equipment (6.6 percent vs -0.7 percent); electrical equipment (6.4 percent vs 3.6 percent) and other transport equipment (12.9 percent vs 1.7 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output advanced 1.5 percent, after an upwardly revised 3.0 percent gain in May. Considering the second quarter of 2018, industrial activity grew 3.4 percent over a year ago.

The Czech National Bank raised its benchmark two-week repo rate by 25bps to 1.25 percent on August 2nd 2018, in line with market expectations. The move follows a similar 25bps hike in the previous meeting. Also, the lombard rate was increased by 25bps to 2.25 percent and the discount rate by 20bps to 0.25 percent. Czech annual inflation rate picked up to 2.6 percent in June, above the central bank’s midpoint target of 2 percent.
