Czechia Construction Output Rises 1.8% in July

Construction output in the Czech Republic rose 1.8% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating from a downwardly revised 0.5% increase in the previous month.

Building construction output increased 4.9% year-on-year, while civil engineering fell 3.4%.

A total of 5,622 building permits were granted, up 4.0% year-on-year, while the floor area of newly permitted buildings decreased 16.9% year-on-year, mainly due to a decline in non-residential buildings, following large production and storage areas permitted last year.

Meanwhile, construction of 2,935 dwellings started, up 11.7% from a year earlier, while the number of dwellings completed climbed 46.1% year-on-year to 3,328, both driven by multi-dwelling buildings in July.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output edged up 0.4% in July, rebounding from a 0.3% decline in the previous month.

Construction output in the Czech Republic increased 2.0% year-on-year in June 2026, easing from a 4.4% rise in the previous month and marking the slowest pace of growth since January. Building construction output increased 6.3% compared with a year earlier, while civil engineering activity contracted 5.3%. A total of 5,545 building permits were issued during the month, up 1.8% year-on-year, while the floor area of newly permitted buildings surged 76.3%. Meanwhile, housing starts jumped 52.9% from a year earlier to 4,103 units, whereas the number of completed dwellings declined 17.8% year-on-year to 2,699. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output fell 0.3% in June, reversing a 0.2% increase recorded in May.

Construction output in the Czech Republic increased by 4.4% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a 7.7% rise in April but extending its expansion to a nineteenth consecutive month. Growth was supported by both major segments, with building construction rising 3.3% and civil engineering works advancing 6.6%. A total of 5,784 building permits were granted, up 11.6% from a year earlier, driven by increases in both new building and civil engineering projects, while the floor area of new building construction surged 74.2%. Meanwhile, housing starts jumped 48.3% to 3,968 units, and completed dwellings rose 13.5% to 2,811 units. On a monthly basis, construction output edged up 0.2% in May, following a 0.6% increase in April.
