Soybeans Surge to July 2024 Highs

Soybean futures rose toward $11.60 per bushel their highest since July 2024 amid shrinking stocks and fresh export demand.

China’s snap purchase of seven US cargoes for December and January delivery lifted physical bids and signalled immediate offtake just as the November USDA trimmed world production by about 4.1 million tonnes to roughly 421.75 million tonnes and cut global ending stocks to about 121.99 million tonnes which reduced the buffer traders had been relying on.

Strength in soymeal and soy oil amplified buying from crushers and feed users because European regulatory uncertainty and robust Asian feed demand pushed meal values higher.

Meanwhile, South American planting remains uneven leaving the crop vulnerable to downside revisions.

Competitive US Gulf offers at premiums to Brazil and active export tenders confirmed that nearby supplies can be drawn down quickly so buying by large importers against a smaller global stocks cushion kept prices on the rise.

Soybeans Remain at 3-Month Low
Soybean futures held around $11.8 per bushel, sitting at their lowest level in three months, as expectations of abundant global supplies and concerns over Chinese demand weighed on prices. The US harvest was 88% complete as of November 1, four percentage points ahead of the five-year average, keeping production on track for a record. Competition from Brazil added to the pressure, with a weaker real making its exports more competitive, while planting for the 2026/27 crop reached 53% of the projected area, six percentage points ahead of last year's pace. Demand concerns also grew as China's soybean oil inventories climbed to nearly 1.5 million tons, reflecting strong crushing activity outpacing sluggish consumption. However, export demand offered some support, with US soybean shipments reaching a marketing-year high in the latest reported week. Traders now await the USDA's November WASDE report for updated estimates on production, demand and ending stocks.

Soybean Futures Holds Near 11-Week Low
Soybean futures held below $12.1 per bushel, staying near an eleven-week low as the rapidly advancing US harvest and expectations for record crop weighed on prices. The USDA’s October WASDE report raised its forecast for 2026/27 US soybean crop by 1% from the previous estimate to a record 4.56 billion bushels, up 7% from the previous year. The projected yield was also revised higher by 0.6 bushels to a record 53.1 bushels per acre. According to the USDA’s weekly report, the harvest has now reached 79% completion as of October 25, slightly ahead of the five-year average of 77%. Meanwhile, US export inspections climbed to 2.48 million metric tons for the week ended October 22, up from 2.07 million the previous week and well above the 1.16 million tons recorded a year earlier. Elsewhere, Brazil’s competitive position remained a concern after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s reelection weakened the real, making Brazilian soybeans cheaper for overseas buyers relative to US supplies.
