Baltic Dry Index Eases for 4th Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, retreated for a fourth straight session on Thursday, falling about 1% to a new low since January 26 at 1,936 points.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, decreased by 1.4% to 2,951 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, slumped by 1.5% to 1,659 points.
Conversely, the smaller suprmax index rose 0.9% to its highest since December 24 last year at 1,102 points.
