The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, dropped about 3.8% to its lowest since November 13 at 2,121 points on Wednesday, reversing the previous day's slight rebound.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, snapped its two-day winning streak, slipping 3.7% to a near one-month low of 3,694 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, eased for the 15th straight session, slumping 6.2% to its lowest since June 26 at 1,480 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index shed 27 points to 1,308 points.
