Baltic Dry Index Slips to Over 1-Month Low

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, dropped about 3.8% to its lowest since November 13 at 2,121 points on Wednesday, reversing the previous day's slight rebound.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, snapped its two-day winning streak, slipping 3.7% to a near one-month low of 3,694 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, eased for the 15th straight session, slumping 6.2% to its lowest since June 26 at 1,480 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index shed 27 points to 1,308 points.

Baltic Dry Index Extends Losing-Run
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for the sixth straight session on Monday, falling about 1.4% to its lowest since April 15 at 2,490 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 2.8% to 3,538 points; and the supramax index edged down by 0.1% to a fresh low since June 15 at 1,668 points. On the other hand, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.7% to 2,124 points.

Baltic Dry Index Falls for 5th Day
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, extended its decline into a fifth consecutive session on Friday, falling about 2.6% to its lowest since mid-April at 2,524 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, dropped 4.9% to 3,640 points; and the supramax index decreased by 0.5% to its lowest since June 15 at 1,670 points. By contrast, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 0.7% to 2,110 points. For the week, the benchmark index posted a 7.3% decline.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 3.1% to 3,827 points; and the supramax index went down by 0.9% to its lowest since June 15 at 1,678 points. Conversely, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 1.2% to 2,096 points.
