The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was up for the ninth consecutive day on Tuesday, rising 0.6% to a fresh high since March 2024 at 2,309 points, buoyed by the larger vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, went up by 0.8% to a near four-month high of 3,730 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased by 0.7% to 1,957 points, marking the fifth session of gains.
Conversely, the supramax index eased by 1 point, or 0.1%, to 1.431 points.
