The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, snapped a two-day winning streak on Friday, falling about 0.9% to 1,966 points, amid broad-based declines across vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell by 0.5% to 2,929 points, after two consecutive sessions of advances; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined 1.5% to 1,821 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index fell 0.8% to 1,326 points.
