The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, snapped a five-day losing streak on Wednesday, rising about 0.6% to 1,961 points, propelled by the bigger-size segment.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also halted a five-day losing run, advancing 2.1% to 2,843 points.
On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, was down for a third day, falling 1% to its lowest since October 21 at 1,885 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index eased 8 points to 1,342 points.
