The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, slipped about 5.7% to 2,022 points on Tuesday, after a 10.7% jump in the prior session, pressured by the bigger-size segment.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, ended its three-day rally, plunging about 11.4% to 3,007 points, likely tracking lower iron ore prices amid easing supply concerns tied to new Chinese port fees.
On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 0.5% to 1,815 points; and the supramax index increased 0.6% to 1,408 points.
