The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, snapped its third-day losing run on Thursday, rising about 1.2% to 1,963 points, amid higher rates for the larger vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, advanced 1.6% to 2,816 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2.3% to 1,758 points.
On the other hand, the supramax index fell about 0.5% to a one-week low of 1,461 points.
