The unemployment rate in Albania decreased to 12.9 percent in the three months to June of 2018 from 14.3 percent in the corresponding period of 2017. It was the lowest unemployment rate since the last quarter of 2008. The male jobless rate went down to 13.5 percent from 15.4 percent and for female it declined to 12.2 percent from 12.8 in the second quarter of the previous year. The youth unemployment rate also fell by 3.7 percentage points to 22.6 percent. The employment rate increased to 59.2 percent from 57.3 percent, rising by 2.2 percentage points to 66.3 percent for male and by 1.9 percentage points to 52.2 percent for female. Meanwhile, the labour force participation rate rose to 68 percent from 66.8 percent a year earlier. In the first quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate was higher at 13 percent.
