Turkish Capacity Utilization Hits Over 2-Year Low

The manufacturing industry in Turkey operated at 74.3% of its production capacity in April 2025, slightly lower from 74.4% in the previous month.

It marked the lowest reading since March 2023, as capacity utilization declined for non-durable consumer goods (72.7% vs 73.1% in March), consumer goods (72.6% vs 73%), intermediate goods (74.5% vs 74.8%), and durable consumer goods (71.9% vs 72.1%).

On the other hand, production capacity increased for investment goods (73.2% vs 72%).

In April 2024, the Turkish manufacturing industry operated at 76.7% of its production capacity.

This marked the lowest reading since August 2020, mainly driven by weaker utilization in investment goods, which fell further to 69.5% from 70.1%, alongside a slight drop in intermediate goods to 74.7% from 74.9%. Capacity use in food and beverages also inched lower to 72.6% from 72.5%. Meanwhile, some categories showed resilience, as durable consumer goods utilization rose to 68.7% from 66.7%, and non-durable consumer goods edged up to 72.4% from 72.1%. Overall consumer goods production also improved slightly to 71.7% from 71.2%, partially offsetting broader declines.

This marked the lowest reading since August 2025, reflecting a continued slowdown in industrial activity at the start of the year. Capacity utilization declined mainly in the production of investment goods, which fell to 70.1% from 71.5%, and in non-durable consumer goods, dropping to 72.1% from 72.4%. Output for food and beverages also eased to 72.5% from 72.8%, while the use of intermediate goods slipped to 74.9% from 75.2%. In contrast, utilization for durable consumer goods saw a slight increase to 66.7% from 65.5%, and overall consumer goods remained stable at 71.2%.

Additionally, lower production capacity was recorded for non-durable consumer goods (72.4% vs 72.7%), food and beverages (72.8% vs 73.1%), intermediate goods (75.2% vs 75.3%), and investment goods (71.5% vs 71.7%).
