Swedish Jobless Rate Highest Since 2021

The unemployment rate in Sweden rose to 10.4% in January 2025, up from 8.5% in the same month of the previous year.
This marked the highest unemployment rate since June 2021, as the number of unemployed people increased by 113 thousand to 592 thousand, while the employment declined by 27 thousand to 5.11 million.
The employment rate fell by 0.5 percentage points to 67.1%, while the labor force participation rate grew by 0.9 percentage points to 74.8%.
The average number of total hours worked amounted to 137 million per week.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate increased to 8.9% from 8.5% in the preceding period.
