The annual inflation rate in Sweden rose to 0.9% in January 2025, slightly lower than the preliminary estimate of 1%, but edging up from a four-year low of 0.8% in December 2024.
Despite the uptick, this still marked the sixth consecutive month that the inflation rate was below the Riksbank's 2% target.
Prices accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.17% vs. 1.73% in December), clothing and footwear (3.72% vs. 2.09%), recreation and culture (1.25% vs. 0.63%), education (4.24% vs. 1.92%), and restaurants and hotels (3.7% vs. 3.04%).
In addition, prices rebounded for transport (0.41% vs. -0.5%).
Meanwhile, costs moderated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.06% vs. 2.88%), health (3.91% vs. 4.51%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.68% vs. 3.75%).
Moreover, deflation continued for housing and utilities (-0.86% vs. -0.37%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices stalled in January 2025, remaining unchanged from the preceding month.
