Swedish Household Spending Rebounds

Household spending in Sweden increased 1.0% month-on-month in November 2025, recovering from a downwardly revised 0.5% fall in October.

The rebound was mainly driven by higher consumption of recreation and culture, goods and services (3.5% vs -0.4%), food and beverages (0.7% vs -0.1%), clothing and footwear (2.3% vs -5.6%), while housing, electricity, gas & heating was unchanged (0.2%).

Meanwhile, spending growth on furniture, furnishings, household equipment, and consumables eased (0.8% vs 3.3%).

By contrast, transport, retail trade, and motor vehicle services fell 1.6%, following a 2.3% decline in the previous month.

On a yearly basis, household consumption rose 3.5%, accelerating from an upwardly revised 2.7% increase in the previous month.

Household spending in Sweden fell 0.9% month-on-month in October 2025, reversing an upwardly revised 0.5% increase in September. The decline was mainly driven by lower consumption of transport, retail trade, and motor vehicle services, which fell 2.4% (vs -1.2% in September). Spending also decreased on recreation and culture, goods and services (-0.9% vs 2.7% in September), and housing, electricity, gas & heating (-0.1% after being flat in September). Meanwhile, spending on food and beverages was unchanged, after rising 0.4% in September. On a yearly basis, household consumption climbed 2.3%, easing from an upwardly revised 3.6% rise in the previous month.

Household spending in Sweden rose 0.3% month-on-month in September 2025, easing from an upwardly revised 0.8% increase in August. The uptick was mainly driven by higher consumption of recreation and culture goods and services, which rose 2.5%. Spending also increased on food and beverages (0.5%). In contrast, expenditure declined for transport, retail trade, and motor vehicle services (-1.5%), while spending on housing, electricity, gas, and heating fell 0.6%. On a yearly basis, household consumption increased 3.3%, accelerating from an upwardly revised 2.9% gain in the previous month.
