Spain’s new passenger car registrations rose 11.8% year-on-year to 68,544 units in August 2026, marking the strongest August since 2019.
Sales returned to growth despite the holiday period, supported by strong demand for electrified vehicles, which accounted for more than a quarter of the market.
Rental registrations posted the strongest growth, rising 32% to 2,268 units, followed by business sales, which increased 13.1% to 27,167 units.
Private registrations rose 9.9% to 39,109 units.
Year to date, 818,201 new passenger cars have been registered, up 6.3% from a year earlier.
Electrified vehicle registrations, including BEVs and PHEVs, jumped 27% in August to 18,967 units, giving them a 27.7% market share.
So far this year, 185,340 electrified vehicles have been sold, up 34.1% year-on-year and accounting for 22.6% of total registrations.
