Slovenia Retail Sales Growth Eases in April

Retail sales in Slovenia rose by 3.4% year-on-year in April 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 6.3% jump in the previous month. Retail activity moderated for non-food products (4.8% vs 5.9% in March) and automotive fuel in specialized stores (12.9% vs 21.8%). At the same time, sales declined in food, beverages, and tobacco (-0.7% vs 0.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales dropped 0.9% in April, sharply slowing from an upwardly revised 5.3% growth in the preceding period.

Retail sales in Slovenia returned to growth, advancing by 4.6% year-on-year in March 2026, following a downwardly revised 2.7% decline in the previous month. This marked the sharpest growth in retail activity since September 2022, as sales rebounded notably in non-food products (3.8% vs -0.8% in February) and automotive fuel in specialized stores (18.5% vs -7.3%). At the same time, sales fell at a softer pace in food, beverages, and tobacco (-0.1% vs -4.1%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade increased 4.2% in March, marking a near four-year high after a downwardly revised 1.5% fall in the preceding period.

Retail sales in Slovenia fell 3.5% year-on-year in February 2026, following a 1.5% decline in January, marking the lowest level since February 2024. Sales dropped in non-food products (-2.1% vs 1.1% in January) and fell further in food, beverages, and tobacco (-4.6% vs -1.4%). Meanwhile, the decline in retail activity for automotive fuel at specialized stores eased (-6.4% vs -9.2%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales continued to fall, down 2% from 1.9% in January. Overall, retail turnover in the first two months of 2026 fell 1.9% year-on-year.
