Slovenia's producer prices increased 2.3 percent year-on-year in April of 2017, accelerating from a 1.9 percent rise in the prior month. It is the highest producer inflation since January of 2012, as prices went up for manufacturing (2.6 percent vs 2.2 percent in March) and mining and quarrying (0.7 percent vs 1.1 percent). In contrast, cost fell for electricity (-4.3 percent vs -4.1 percent) and water supply (-0.9 percent, the same pace as in March). On a monthly basis, output prices edged up 0.2 percent compared to a flat increase in March.

The unemployment rate in Slovenia decreased to 10.2 percent in March from 10.9 percent in February of 2017. It is the lowest jobless rate since November 2009, as the number of unemployed persons fell by 6.1 percent or by 6.15 thousand to 95.2 thousand. The number of employed persons went up by 0.9 percent or by 7.40 thousand to 833.6 thousand. Employment increased for both genders: for men by 1.2 percent to 455.8 thousand and for women by 0.5 percent to 377.8 thousand. By sectors, more jobs were added in construction (5.6 percent to 54.3 thousand) while cuts were observed in financial and insurance activities, mining and quarrying and real estate activities. A year earlier, the unemployment rate was recorded at 12 percent.

In the first quarter of the year, the trade surplus narrowed to €149.1 million from €300.4 million in the same period of 2016, as exports rose by 12 percent and imports increased at a faster 15.2 percent.

Prices rose more for clothing (1.0 percent vs -0.3 percent) and communication (2.9 percent vs 2.1 percent). In contrast, cost fell for furnishing/household equipment (-0.3 percent vs 0.7 percent).
