Slovenia Producer Prices Change at 2.30 percent  
Producer prices in Slovenia increased 2.3 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, the same pace as in the previous month. Prices rebounded for mining and quarrying (0.9 percent compared to -0.6 percent in July) and increased at a steady pace for manufacturing (2.6 percent). On the other hand, prices fell for for electricity (-3.9 percent compared to -4 percent) and water supply (-0.9 percent, the same as in July). On a monthly basis, producer prices were flat after increasing 0.1 percent in July.

Exports advanced 12.9 percent to EUR 2334.3 million and imports rose at a slower 11.8 percent to EUR 2219.2 million, the smallest in three months. In July, more than three quarters of Slovenia's trade in goods was generated with the EU Member States (76.8 percent of total exports and 79.2 percent of total imports). Considering the January to July period, sales rose 16.3 percent to EUR 16.3 billion and imports grew 15.8 percent to EUR 15.8 billion, thus widening the trade surplus to EUR 495.9 million.

Slovenia's consumer price inflation increased to a three-month high of 1.2 percent year-on-year in August 2017 from 1 percent in the previous month. Upward pressure came mainly from: Transport (1.5 percent, after showing no growth in July); housing and utilities (2.2 percent from 1.5 percent); recreation and culture (0.7 percent from 0.3 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (1.5 percent from 1.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent after falling by 0.7 percent in July, boosted by higher cost of motor fuels, package holidays and miscellaneous goods and services.

Slovenia's gross domestic product expanded 4.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, following a downwardly revised 5.1 percent growth in the previous period. Household consumption advanced 3.2 percent, after an increase of 4.1 percent in Q1; and fixed investment rose 7.9 percent, easing from a 12.8 percent gain in the previous period. Meanwhile, government spending grew further by 1.2 percent (0.9 percent in Q1) and external demand had a positive impact on the economic grow, as exports went up 8.3 percent (9.5 percent in Q1) and imports increased at a slower 7.9 percent (10.7 percent in Q1). On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy expanded 1.1 percent after advancing by 1.2 percent in the previous period.
