Slovenia Retail Sales Hit 4-Month Low

Slovenia's retail sales rose 2.1% year-on-year in June 2026, easing slightly from an upwardly revised 2.2% increase in the previous month and marking the weakest growth since February.

The slowdown was driven by a 1.8% increase in retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores.

Meanwhile, food climbed 1.6, while non-food retail sales grew 1.5%.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.2% in June, reversing an upwardly revised 0.1% gain in May.

In the first half of 2026, retail turnover was 1.9% from the same period a year earlier, supported by a 6.4% jump in motor fuel sales and a 2.5% rise in non-food retail sales.

By contrast, food retail sales declined 0.9%, underscoring continued softness in consumer demand for food products.

Slovenia's retail sales rose 1.8% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 3.3% increase in the previous month. It marked the lowest reading since February, largely driven by a 2.3% decline in food retail segment. Meanwhile, motor fuel sales climbed 13.3%, while non-food retail sales grew 1.6%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.3% in May, easing from an upwardly revised 1.0% decline in April. For the January–May period, retail turnover was 1.8% higher than in the corresponding period of 2025. Growth was led by motor fuel sales, which climbed 7.5%, and non-food retail sales, which advanced 2.8%. In contrast, food retail sales declined 1.6%, highlighting persistent weakness in consumer spending within the segment.

Slovenia Retail Sales Growth Eases in April
Retail sales in Slovenia rose by 3.4% year-on-year in April 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 6.3% jump in the previous month. Retail activity moderated for non-food products (4.8% vs 5.9% in March) and automotive fuel in specialized stores (12.9% vs 21.8%). At the same time, sales declined in food, beverages, and tobacco (-0.7% vs 0.3%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales dropped 0.9% in April, sharply slowing from an upwardly revised 5.3% growth in the preceding period.
