Slovakia Retail Sales Rebound in August

Retail sales in Slovakia rose by 1.6% year-on-year in August 2026, rebounding from a 0.1% fall in the previous month.
Turnover recovered in food, beverages, and tobacco in specialized stores (0.4% vs -1.6% in July), while activity increased in information and communication equipment (8.5% vs 8.1%), other household goods in specialized stores (8.6% vs 3.3%), and other goods in specialized stores (1.8% vs 0.3%).
Moreover, activity dropped at a softer pace in sales via stalls and markets (-10.2% vs -16.9%) and sales not in stores, stalls, or markets (-4.6% vs -11.8%).
In contrast, sales growth moderated in automotive fuels in specialized stores (0.4% vs 1.6%), while activity declined in cultural and recreational goods in specialized stores (-4.3% vs 0.3%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade grew by 0.9%, following a 0.2% increase in the preceding period.
