Slovakia Inflation Lowest Since 2024

Slovakia's annual inflation rate eased to 3.1% in August 2026 from 3.3% in July, slightly below market expectations of 3.2%.

This marked the lowest reading since December 2024, largely due to a deeper decline in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices (-2.5% vs -2.1%).

Inflation also slowed for clothing and footwear (0.4% vs 0.8%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.3% vs 1.4%), health (4.8% vs 5.1%), transport (6.5% vs 7.0%), recreation, sport and culture (4.7% vs 5.2%), education (5.9% vs 6.0%), and insurance and financial services (4.5% vs 4.6%).

Meanwhile, price growth accelerated for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (2.6% vs 1.8%) and information and communication (2.3% vs 2.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged, in line with market expectations and compared with a 0.1% increase in July.

Core inflation, which excludes regulated prices, edged down to 1.5% from 1.7% in July, marking its lowest level since February 2021.

Meanwhile, price growth accelerated for housing and utilities (7.4% vs 7.3%), transport (7.0% vs 5.3%), clothing and footwear (0.8% vs 0.6%), health (5.1% vs 4.9%), information and communication (2.2% vs 2.0%), and recreation, sport and culture (5.2% vs 4.8%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.1%, compared with market expectations and the previous month's 0.1% decline. Slovakia's annual inflation rate rose 3.5% in June 2026, easing from 3.8% in the previous month but coming in slightly above market expectations of 3.4%. Inflation slowed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.1% vs 3.7% in May), education (6.1% vs 6.2%), restaurants and hotels (4.7% vs 5.2%), insurance and financial services (4.9% vs 5.1%), and transport (5.3% vs 9.4%). Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices also fell (-0.5% vs 0.3%), while prices remained steady for clothing and footwear (0.6%), recreation and culture (4.8%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.2%). Meanwhile, price growth accelerated for housing and utilities (7.3% vs 6.7%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.2% vs 0.7%), health (4.9% vs 4.5%), and information and communication (2.0% vs 1.8%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1% in June, following a 0.4% rise in May. Core inflation, excluding regulated prices, slowed to 1.9% in June from 2.3% in the previous month.
