Slovakia's current account deficit narrowed to EUR 436.8 million in April 2026 from EUR 690.8 million in the same month of the previous year.

Still, it remained the largest deficit since January, despite the goods deficit shrinking to EUR 139.5 million from EUR 262.1 million in April 2025, while the services surplus increased to EUR 45.6 million from EUR 40.1 million.

Moreover, the primary income deficit narrowed to EUR 306.4 million from EUR 337.3 million, and the secondary income shortfall declined sharply to EUR 36.5 million from EUR 131.5 million a year earlier.

For the January–April period, the country's total current account deficit stood at EUR 1,661 million.

Slovakia Current Account Deficit Narrows in June
Slovakia's current account deficit narrowed to EUR 226.5 million in June 2026 from EUR 277.6 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. The goods account surplus widened to EUR 135.3 million from EUR 126.9 million in June 2025, while the primary income shortfall narrowed to EUR 299.0 million from EUR 354.4 million. In contrast, the services account surplus edged down to EUR 41.3 million from EUR 41.6 million, and the secondary income deficit widened to EUR 104.1 million from EUR 91.7 million. In the first half of the year, the country's current account deficit totaled EUR 944.7 million, down from EUR 2,699.5 million in the corresponding period of 2025.

Slovakia's Current Account Swings to Surplus in May
Slovakia's current account posted a surplus of €109.8 million in May 2026, compared with a €156.4 million deficit in the same month a year earlier. This marks its first monthly surplus in nearly three years after a prolonged period of consecutive deficits, primarily driven by a 90.4% year-on-year surge in the goods account to €447.2 million, the highest level in more than a decade. The services account also strengthened, with its surplus increasing 28.7% to €52.5 million. The secondary income account remained a drag on the current account, narrowing by 14.6% to €107.6 million. Meanwhile, the primary income account deteriorated, with its deficit widening 7.8% to €282.2 million. For the first five months of 2026, Slovakia's cumulative current account deficit narrowed to €843.3 million.
