Slovakia Consumer Morale Hits 4-Month High

Slovakia's consumer confidence indicator rose to -27.3 in June 2026 from a more than three-year low of -28.3 in the previous month.

It marked the highest level since February, mainly driven by less pessimistic expectations regarding households' future financial situation (-11.3 vs -13.4 in May) and a more favorable assessment of their past financial situation (-15.1 vs -17.2).

Consumers were also less negative about the country's future economic outlook (-42.4 vs -44.0), although their assessment of the past economic situation deteriorated slightly (-54.7 vs -53.6).

Expectations for unemployment improved (36.2 vs 36.6), while expectations for household savings were marginally less negative (-19.1 vs -19.3).

On the inflation front, perceptions of past price growth eased (42.4 vs 45.1), while inflation expectations also softened notably (36.6 vs 40.8).

Slovakia’s consumer confidence indicator dropped to -28.3 in May 2026 from -27.4 in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since March 2023, signaling a weaker household sentiment. The overall drop was driven by households more pessimistic view for savings (-19.3 vs -14.1 in April) and rising concerns about current financial conditions (-13.4 vs -12.5). Meanwhile, consumers were slightly less negative in their assessment of the general economic outlook (-44.0 vs -45.9), suggesting some resilience despite the broader decline in confidence. Concerns over future unemployment also eased marginally (36.6 vs 37.1). Among other indicators, concerns about their past financial situation continued to deteriorate (-17.2 vs -15.5).

Slovakia’s consumer confidence indicator edged up by 0.8 percentage points to -27.4 in April 2026 from -28.2 in the previous month, which was the lowest in three years, signaling a slight improvement in household sentiment. Consumers were less pessimistic about their ability to save (-14.1 vs -16.1 in March), while concerns over future unemployment also eased marginally (37.1 vs 38.8). Conversely, sentiment deteriorated further regarding households’ current financial situation (-12.5 vs -12) and the country’s general economic outlook (-45.9 vs -45.7). Among other indicators, consumers were also less negative about making major purchases (-18.2 vs -20.5), suggesting a modest improvement in spending intentions, while inflation expectations continued to rise (39.3 vs 38.8).
