Slovakia Consumer Morale Lowest in 3 Years

Slovakia’s consumer confidence indicator dropped to -28.2 in March 2026 from -25.0 in the previous month.

This marked the lowest reading  since March 2023, placing it 8.3 points below the long-term average signaling a deterioration in household sentiment.

The overall drop was driven by households more pessimistic view of the general economic outlook (-45.7 vs -38.2 in February) and expressed heightened concern over future unemployment (38.8 vs 33.3) signaling increased anxiety about economic conditions and job security.

Meanwhile, consumers were slightly less negative in their assessment of their household financial situation, including both their current finances (-12.0 vs -12.3) and expectations for savings (-16.1 vs -16.2), suggesting some resilience despite the broader decline in confidence.

Slovakia’s consumer confidence indicator edged up by 0.8 percentage points to -27.4 in April 2026 from -28.2 in the previous month, which was the lowest in three years, signaling a slight improvement in household sentiment. Consumers were less pessimistic about their ability to save (-14.1 vs -16.1 in March), while concerns over future unemployment also eased marginally (37.1 vs 38.8). Conversely, sentiment deteriorated further regarding households’ current financial situation (-12.5 vs -12) and the country’s general economic outlook (-45.9 vs -45.7). Among other indicators, consumers were also less negative about making major purchases (-18.2 vs -20.5), suggesting a modest improvement in spending intentions, while inflation expectations continued to rise (39.3 vs 38.8).

Slovakia’s consumer confidence indicator rose to -25 in February 2026 from -26.7 in the previous month, though it remained 5.1 points below its long-term average. Sentiment improved as households took a less pessimistic view of the general economic outlook (-38.2 vs -42.6 in January) and their savings position (-16.2 vs -20.8). In contrast, expectations for their financial situation deteriorated further (-12.3 vs -11.7), while concerns about unemployment increased (33.3 vs 31.5). Among other indicators, consumers were also less negative about major purchases (-19.2 vs -19.7), though sentiment remained unfavorable, while inflation expectations ticked up (30.7 vs 30.6).
