Romanian Jobless Rate Steady at 6.0%

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6% in December 2025, unchanged the previous month.

The number of unemployed persons decreased marginally by six from a month earlier to 493.7 thousand.

By gender, the jobless rates for men edged down to 5.9% from 6.1% in November, while that for women increased to 6.1% from 5.9%.

In December 2024, the jobless rate was lower at 5.7%.

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged lower to 6% in January 2026, from an upwardly revised 6.1% in December. This represents the lowest level since September 2025, as the number of unemployed decreased by 8 thousand month-on-month to 490.5 thousand. By gender, the unemployment rate for men remained stable at 6%, while for women it decreased to 5.9% from 6.2% in December. Among individuals aged 25–74, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 4.5% in January from 4.7% in the previous month. In January 2025, the overall unemployment rate stood at 6%.

The number of unemployed persons increased by 6.4 thousand from a month earlier to 493.7 thousand. The jobless rates for men rose by 6.1% from 6% in October, while that for women grew by 5.9% from 5.8%. In November 2024, the jobless rate was lower at 5.6%.
