Romanian Jobless Rate Steady at 6%

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6% in February 2026, unchanged from the previous month, holding at its lowest level since September 2025 over the recent two-month period.

The number of unemployed persons rose by 4.2 thousand month-on-month to 494.7 thousand, while it declined by 6.8 thousand year-on-year.

By gender, the unemployment rate for men increased to 6.1% from 6% in the previous month, while for women it also edged up to 6% from 5.9%.

Among individuals aged 25-74, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked higher to 4.6% from 4.5% in the previous month, with 4.6% for men and 4.5% for women, who accounted for 71.6% of the total number of unemployed in February.

In February 2025, the jobless rate was higher at 6.1%.

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged up to 6.4% in May 2026 from 6.3% in the previous month. The number of unemployed people increased by nearly 10 thousand from the prior month and by 15.1 thousand from a year earlier, reaching 522.1 thousand. By gender, the jobless rate for men inched higher to 6.3% from 6.2% in each of the previous two months, while the rate for women rose to 6.5% from 6.3% in April. Among individuals aged 25–74, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9%. In May 2025, the overall unemployment rate stood at 6.2%.

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate eased to 6.3% in April 2026 from an upwardly revised 6.5% in the previous month. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 21.7 thousand month-on-month, while it increased by 10.2 thousand year-on-year, reaching 512.1 thousand. By gender, the unemployment rate for men stood at 6.2%, while it edged down for women to 6.3% from 6.9% in the previous month. Among individuals aged 25-74, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate eased to 4.9% from 5.1%, with 4.8% for men and 5.0% for women, accounting for 73.3% of total unemployed in April. Meanwhile, the rate of unemployment in April 2025 was 6.1%, lower than the latest reading.
